Letter to Parents regarding report cards and school future planning
Posted on 02/21/2018

Dear JYES parents and guardians,

Happy Family Day Weekend!

We have had a great five weeks of learning back from our Winter Break. I hope that you received your child's report card this week.  Please contact your child's teacher or the office if you are missing this important document, and we will ensure it gets to you next week.

Please see the attached information letter regarding the Ottawa-Carleton District's Needs Analysis (DNA) and Capital Priority Consultation. In the DNA, you will see that our school is forecast to increase in pupil size from our current population of 700 students to 1009 by 2022 and 1491 by 2027. As a result, six more portables and an emergency road will be built on the west side of our existing twelve portables. Unfortunately to add these structures and road, we will need to remove the ball diamond.  As you may know, the new neighbourhoods south and west of the school have been growing in a dramatic fashion.

The OCDSB is trying to set priorities for capital building for new schools. They look to the community for feedback before giving the priority list for new buildings to the Ministry of Education. It is clear that a new "Fernbank School" must be a priority to relieve growth at JYES given our projected enrollment. If you wish to give your feedback to the OCDSB, please see the attachment for contact information and key questions for your consideration.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this information.

Have a wonderful long weekend!
