Here's some things taking place in February

Dear JYES Parents/Guardians

Here are some events for the month of February which may be of interest to you. 

Wednesday, February 14th and Thursday, February 15th – Scholastic Book Fair
School Council’s second and final book fair of the year where Scholastic books are available for purchase in the library. Students will visit the book fair with their class and have the opportunity to purchase books or make a wish list for parents. Parents also have the opportunity to directly support their child’s classroom by purchasing books off a teacher’s wish list. The book fair will be during school hours only on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday, February 14th – JYES Spirit Day – Pink, Red and White Day
Show your school spirit by wearing pink, red and/or white on Valentine’s Day!

Wednesday, February 14th – Sub Day (Term 2)

Friday, February 16th – P.A. Day

Monday, February 19th – Family Day – School Closed

Wednesday, February 21st – Pizza Day

Friday, February 23rd – Neon Day
Show your school spirit by wearing your neon colors!

Friday, February 23rd – Popcorn Day
If you did not pre-purchase popcorn through the Hot Lunches website and you would like your child to participate, please send them with $1 per bag to give to their teacher or to bring to Room 107 during the first nutrition break. Popcorn will be delivered to students for their second nutrition break.

Friday, February 23rd – Pizza and Movie Night – Despicable Me 3
School Council presents “Despicable Me 3”. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the movie will start at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $2 per person or $5 per family. Pizza can be pre-ordered on the Hot Lunches website and drinks and snacks will be available for purchase at the event. There will be a limited number of pizza slices available at concession.

Sunday, February 25th – City of Ottawa Special Needs Camp Fair
Jim Durrell Areana, 1265 Walkley Road 10am – 3pm
The City of Ottawa Special Needs staff will be on-site with camp information to answer any questions you may have. The City of Ottawa has invited over 40 specialized camps and organizations to this event. For more information please call Christina McCormick at 613-580-2424, ext 29291

Tuesday, February 27th – Toonie Tuesday
Please consider sending your child with a Toonie (or more) to help meet the most basic needs for our students which are not funded by the school board or the Ministry of Education. More information about Toonie Tuesday to come!

Wednesday, February 28th – Sub Day

Wednesday, February 28th – School Council Meeting
School Council will meet in the library starting at 6:30 p.m. Child care will be provided at no cost.

Wednesday, February 28th – Pink Shirt Day
Pink Shirt Day encourages everyone to practice kindness and wear pink to symbolize that you do not tolerate bullying. For online resources please visit
