Good day, JYES Families,

Please find attached the Principal Report from our latest School Council Meeting on October 24.

Well, it looks like the colder, snowier weather is upon us. I would like to remind you to please send your children to school dressed for winter weather. Snow jacket and pants, boots, hat and mitts are all necessary for outdoor play during the three recesses. Extra mitts and socks are also recommended.

Progress Report Cards were sent home yesterday. Please check your child's backpack if you haven't received it yet. Attached to the envelope was an interview scheduling sheet. Please take a minute to fill it out and return it to your child's homeroom teacher by Monday, November 12.

After a delay due to manufacturing issues at the factory, our kindergarten play structure was finally opened for use on Thursday, November 8. This play structure is a great improvement over the previous one.  It was likely the old structure was going to fail the next safety inspection and be removed.  Also, much of the new structure can be used year-round as there are many ground-level play panels.  Only the above-ground elements need to be closed during the winter months in order to meet safety requirements from our insurance provider.  Thank you to our School Council, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and the City of Ottawa who contributed funds to add to our school funds to replace this structure.

You are welcome to join us for one of our three Remembrance Day Assemblies in the gym on Monday, November 12:

Primary (grades 1-3) - 9 am

Junior (grades 4-6) - 10 am

Kindergarten - 12:15 pm

Lieutenant (Navy) Teri Murray, mother of two students at JYES, will be addressing the primary and junior students at those two ceremonies.

Please consider joining us as we honour the members of the Armed Forces who gave their lives in the line of duty.  Thank you to teachers Leigh Sinden, Kate Woolley and Rachel Belanger for their leadership in facilitating these ceremonies.

And lastly, a reminder about the School Council fundraiser at Swiss Chalet on Tuesday, November 13. The  attached flyer has all the information.

Let me know at any time if you  have any questions or concerns.  Have a great weekend!
