Quick Facts 

  • Our school welcomes approximately 620 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 each year.
  • We offer full-day bilingual Kindergarten, English with Core French, and the Early French Immersion program.
  • Students who choose to move to the Middle French Immersion program in Grade 4 go to Bridlewood Community Elementary School. Students leaving at the end of Grade 6 go to Glen Cairn P.S. for the Regular English program and the Early French Immersion program. A.Y. Jackson S.S. is our local Grade 9-12 secondary school.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a caring and welcoming environment that promotes the knowledge, skills and values necessary for our students to become successful lifelong learners. John Young E.S. provides opportunities for students to work independently and collaboratively, to think creatively and critically, and to develop self-discipline.

About Our School

John Young E.S., a 4297 square metre one-storey building plus some portables, consists of a general office, gymnasium, library, a primary/junior playground, and a separate fenced kindergarten playground. Areas adjacent to the play structures are used for after-school recreational activities.

Our positive school climate and our strong partnership between home and school provide the foundation for each of our students to become active and responsible citizens. 

Academic Programs:

  • 50/50 French/English Year 1 & 2 Kindergarten
  • Regular English Program with Core French, Grade 1-6
  • Early French Immersion, Grade 1-6

Special Education and ESL Programs

  • The Learning Support Teacher offers support to students from Year 1 Kindergarten to Grade 6
  • Inclusive Model for Special Education Delivery for students in Year 1 Kindergarten to Grade 6

Clubs and Activities

Various clubs and group activities operate throughout the school year to supplement and enrich the learning programs offered in class. Students have many opportunities to take part in concerts, assemblies, field trips, dance, public speaking, chess club, homework club, storytelling events, etc.

The intramural sports program includes activities such as soccer, tripleball, cross-country running, bordenball, basketball, track and field and more.  Other sports activities for all students include regular skating at Jack Charron Arena, snowshoeing and sliding.
