John Young Elementary School was built in 1977. Due to increasing enrolment, an addition was constructed in 1982 which doubled its size. The school name is taken from one of the early settlers in the area. The original "John Young" was the first Postmaster for this community and was a Trustee on the Board of Education.
Today, John Young E.S. offers 4 different programmes: English program with Core French from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 6, an Early French Immersion program from Senior Kindergarten through Grade 6, a primary-junior Behaviour Support Program (BSP) as well as a Specialized Gifted Program from Grade 1 through Grade 6. Our enrolment this year is approximately 365 students.
Parents play a big part in our school. They are involved in a variety of volunteer activities in and around our school. The harmonious development of children is a cooperative undertaking in which parents and teachers share responsibilities. Children should feel that parents and teachers are working as a team. The staff members of John Young E.S. look forward to working with you, to help your child to become the best that he or she can be. Good communication between the home and school is vitally important in the education of our young people. We are enthusiastic about working with you and your children throughout this school year. We have designed this website to present pertinent and detailed information about our school. We hope that the website provides useful information for your family.
Sincerely,
Colleen Irvin, Principal
