Literacy Learning Update #11
Literacy Learning - Home Connections
This week we are highlighting the important connection that writing has to reading. Writing depends on many of the same skills, strategies and knowledge as reading and the development of writing skills supports reading fluency and comprehension. Here are some suggestions to make this part of your learning at home:
- Write together - help your child to learn to write by demonstrating how you write lists, notes, or emails
- Dictate stories or poems - have your child tell you a story or poem, and you write it down for them
- Create a family journal - encourage your child to write about their day, special events, or favourite things
- Write thank you notes or birthday cards - practice writing different types of letters and notes
- Use different writing tools - crayons, markers, pencils, and even clay or shaving cream can be used to make writing fun!
