School Priority Learning Plan

All schools are required to develop a School Priority Learning Plan each school year that outlines school goals in both core learning and well being.  This year our core learning focus is on building foundational literacy skills.  This involves developing phonemic awareness, phonics, and letter recognition in the early grades (Kindergarten and Primary), like those highlighted in the Home Connections section found in the Literacy Learning Update #2 on the website.  This is to establish a strong base for reading and writing throughout the grades.  In the area of well being, we continue to focus on setting the conditions for learning by establishing intentional classroom routines and practices that promote belonging, community, and safety.  We will continue working on our goals and monitoring progress through school data and ongoing conversations and professional development opportunities. Our staff are committed to continuing to develop their knowledge and skills in both of these important areas in order to support the school experience of all of the students in the John Young community.
