Weekly message to families - Sept 26

Dear Families,

Thank you for another great week of learning and growing!  It was wonderful to see such a great turn out at the annual School Council BBQ on Thursday.  A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who made this such a success.  This week also saw the first School Council meeting of the school year.  There was a great turn out and the Council was excited to share some of the wonderful events they have planned for the year ahead.  A reminder that our hard-working School Council is always happy to have your help.  Reach out to sc-johnyounges@ocdsb.ca  if you would like to offer your support.

A reminder that Monday, September 29 is a PA Day and there will be no school for students. We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, September 30.  On Tuesday, we will also be recognizing National Truth and Reconciliation Day.

Trading Cards

We are asking students to keep Pokemon cards and other trading cards at home. This will help avoid conflicts around trading and lost/damaged cards. It also allows students to focus on active play at recess and reduces distractions during learning times. Thank you for your support in keeping trading cards at home.

Gym Footwear

Students in all grades participate in Physical Education activities that require proper footwear - shoes which are secure to the foot and that provide good traction. Please be sure to send your child with a pair of running shoes so that they may participate safely in the gym and outdoors.

In case you missed it…

Terry Fox Event

On Friday Oct 3rd, we will hold our annual Terry Fox Run. Students will run around the perimeter of our school yard and collect ‘stamps’ from each Canadian province and territory as they go. We run to remember Terry Fox’s determination and to raise funds for cancer research. Families may wish to donate at this link (Terry fox fundraising page) or students can bring in ‘Toonies for Terry’. Thank you for your support of this worthy cause!

Have a wonderful weekend.  Please continue reading for important messages from our hard working School Council team.

Regards,

Kim and Melissa
