Principal's Message

Hello JYES Families!                                                                             March 4, 2019

March is finally here, and while winter is not over at least there is an end in sight.

Internet Safety

You may be aware of an online issue referred to as the “Momo Challenge.” This is a cyberbullying threat and Internet hoax.  It appears to have started with the insertion of animated "witch" faces in Youtube videos and has spread on other popular social media platforms and online gaming platforms. It was reported that children and adolescents were being enticed by a character named Momo to perform a series of dangerous tasks including violent attacks and suicide.  There is concern that the "challenge" element will spread quickly and could lead to risks in student behaviour, feelings of anxiety and stress and student bullying.

While this may be an internet hoax, the risks of cyberbullying are real and can lead to increased behavioural risks, anxiety and stress.  This is an opportunity for us to reinforce the principles of good digital citizenship.

Lost & Found

Our lost and found is overflowing, next time you are at John Young please have a look. If you are missing something there is a good chance it is there.

Thank-you to all our families who donated to Twoonie Tuesday together we raised $742.00  all of this goes to the Education Foundation that directly supports students of the OCDSB.

Congratulations to the boys Tripleball team who placed third in their tournament yesterday. The players make their coaches proud as they used their skill and determination to win many games. Great job, boys! You represented John Young well.

Winter Play day was a massive success, we had a perfect winter day. Thank-you to School Council and our local Independent Grocer for our hot chocolate, to all our parent volunteers who helped run our stations and to the teachers who organized the day.
